Our story
The Pasaban family purchased an old farmhouse in ruins in Zizurkil that was once used as a cattle barn —hence its original Basque name abere-etxea (“house of animals”)— They began its restoration to convert it into an agritourism site, thus launching the Abeletxe project.
Five years later, a restaurant opens on the estate. A professional chef is hired, merging the family’s culinary expertise with the charm of the rural setting. The restaurant soon becomes the heart of Abeletxe’s activity.
For two decades, Abeletxe offered rural lodging and dining, although over time the restaurant became the business’s main focus.
Abeletxe takes a fundamental step in its evolution by incorporating its own kitchen, the result of the fusion between the estate’s chef team and the cooks from Maher. Together they craft exclusive menus directly at Abeletxe, combining tradition and innovation to offer a unique culinary experience that has become one of the essential pillars of every event.
This year, we celebrate 30 years since it all began. A story of transformation and dedication, where each stage has been part of the journey to what Abeletxe is today: a space with a difference, designed to celebrate the most important moments in life.
